1955 French Vinegar Crate from Grande Vinaigrerie Chalonnaise
This rare 1955 French wooden crate once housed bottles of vinegar from the “Grande Vinaigrerie Chalonnaise,” a regional vinegar factory in Burgundy. Crafted from pine, the crate features 15 original bottle compartments, its original factory stencil, and beautifully aged leather handles fixed with scalloped copper rivets. The wood is richly patinated, with blackened scuffs and wear consistent with decades of use. One corner shows darkened aging and minor cracking at the base, but the piece remains structurally solid and visually striking. A perfect piece of French industrial history, ideal for kitchen storage, rolled linens, or display in a wine cellar or pantry.
