Complete Set of 12 Antique Sarreguemines Plates – Les Notables de Cornebourg
A rare and witty complete set of 12 antique French faïence plates from the Les Notables de Cornebourg series, produced by Sarreguemines circa 1850–1870. Each green transferware plate features satirical 19th-century vignettes with French captions humorously mocking local officials, schoolteachers, soldiers, and townsfolk. The decorative floral border and bold black-and-white central scenes reflect the playful spirit of the time.
All 12 plates measure 17 cm in diameter and are stamped on the reverse with Sarreguemines' hallmark. Some plates show mild crazing, minor discoloration, and edge wear consistent with age — no cracks or structural damage. Each plate features a different caption and caricature, fully legible and historically rich. A true collector's treasure, increasingly rare to find as a full set. As this collection was sourced through several different avenues, color and aging vary.
